I knew I would love this book based on the blurb on GoodReads. What’s not to love about a book that starts with “She wakes up in the back of a van, and her whole world changes”? The story definitely had twists and turns, but at times, it was predictable. The story was told from Claire’s point of view, but we also got to read letters written from her mother and also learn the heartbreaking backstory. I loved the way the story was told, alternating between present and past to give the reader the complete picture of the characters. Even though the story jumped around in time, it flowed effortlessly. I found myself rooting for the characters and a HEA, and was scared a few times that they would mess that up J.
While the story is not a cliffhanger, it definitely leaves you wanting more of the story. So much more! This is my first book by Pamela Humphrey’s, but it will definitely not be my last. Cannot wait for the second book in the Hill Country Secrets series to come out.
