Just Friends by Monica Murphy
Release Date: September 13th, 2016
Genre: New Adult Romance
Synopsis:
It’s the end of summer. Just before I start senior year with my two best friends in the whole world. Dustin and Emily are everything to me. We’ve been inseparable since middle school, and when we’re together, nothing can go wrong.
But things aren’t always what they seem. Em’s turned into a drunken mess who parties too much. Dustin and I have hooked up a few times―and now he’s ready to take our relationship to the next level. Yet I’m not sure I want things to change. I’m scared if I take it any further with Dustin, our friendship will be ruined forever. Then there’s Ryan. The new guy. He’s hot. He flirts way too much. And Em has totally set her sights on him.
So when my best friend betrays me in the worst possible way, guess who’s there to help me pick up the pieces of my broken heart? Ryan. But he’s so confusing. Annoying. Sweet. Sexy. I want to trust him, yet he makes it so hard. What I really want is for everything to go back to the way it was before.
Before I found out that best friends make the worst kind of enemies.

Just Friends is an angsty, emotional mess of a book – it was AWESOME! It had more ups and downs then the scariest roller coaster ride. I still am not sure which character I am rooting for, if any! I came close to throwing my Kindle on many occasions but would go right back to the story, immersing myself in the lives of Liv, Ryan, Dustin, Amanda, Emily, and Tuttle.
If you love drama, this is the book for you. After reading Just Friends, you couldn’t pay me enough money to be 17 again. I remember all the hormones, all the disastrous hook-ups, all the fun – yes, fun – discovering love and lust…ok, maybe I would go back.
I know this review almost sounds negative but trust me, you are supposed to feel like you were put through the ringer. I think this was one of the most emotionally intense YA books that I have ever read. Fantastic, stupendous…there aren’t enough words to describe how awesome the writing is and how the plot unfolds.
My favorite character in the book was definitely Amanda. I think that I was most like her in High School, so she is who I could identify with the most. She was also the only character without a ton of baggage or problems. She really endeared herself to me.
I am dying for the next book. I need more of these hormonally charged, emotionally wrecked teens in my life!!!!
