Romantic. Dazzling. Unforgettable. The trip of a lifetime. But some lifetimes are shorter… We couldn’t have known it would work out this way. No one could. No one could’ve guessed that something so beautiful could be so tragic. But it is tragic. Yet so, so beautiful. That’s what sacrifice is—beauty and tragedy. It’s pain and suffering for something or someone you love. And this is the ultimate sacrifice. One stunning act of true love. This is our story. Our true love story.
5 + STARS
It has been a LONG time since I have given a book 5 + Stars. The Empty Jar is worthy of that and so much more. What an amazing, heart-wrenching, dynamic read! I truly believe this is Michelle Leighton’s best book to date.
The story of Nate and Lena is one of true, undeniable, and everlasting love. Life is a gift; they know it in more ways then one. This story touched me so deeply. I laughed, I cried (sobbed really), I felt the love in which this book was written seeping of the pages and into my very soul. It was not a roller coaster of emotions; it was a slow and gradual build to a crescendo of heart-stopping sadness and ultimate joy interwoven to create this magnificent book.
The Empty Jar resonates in my life and touches me so completely. I lost my father 10 years ago from complications from cancer. I myself just underwent a biopsy on my breast two days ago in which I am waiting for the results. There is not one person on this earth that is not touched by this demon called cancer in one way or another. This book gave me something that I so sorely needed at a time that I was doubting everything – it gave me hope. It reminded me that life is not a fairy tale and that hope can come in even the smallest of packages. It also reminded me that love can be so pure that it can conquer anything.
If you have any doubts about reading The Empty Jar, forget them. Michelle has written an amazing book worthy of your time and tears. Thank you, Michelle, for giving me the gift of this book when I needed it most….
