Synopsis

Everyone thinks Luna Harvey is a good girl, but she has a dark secret. She’s a kleptomaniac. For years, Luna has managed to keep her secret from everyone, until one day she slips up and almost gets caught. Fortunately, Grey Sawyer steps in and saves her from getting into trouble.

Grey Sawyer is one of the most popular guys in school and hasn’t always been nice to Luna. While she’s grateful he helped her out, Luna worries he’ll tell everyone her secret and her good girl reputation will be ruined.

Grey understands Luna’s situation more than she realizes, though, because he has a secret of his own. One he desperately wants to tell Luna. But with their rocky past, he knows he’ll have to get her to trust him first and show Luna he’s not the guy he used to be.

Excerpt

He reaches out and molds his hands around mine, bringing me the smallest amount of comfort. “Can you do me a favor? The next time something happens when you feel that pressure, can you talk to me first before you do anything?”

“You really want me to keep talking to you after what I just told you?”

“You think I’d stop liking you because you steal sometimes?” He shakes his head in disbelief. “Luna, I let my friends torture you for years. If anything, you shouldn’t be sitting here, talking to me.”

4 STARS

Jessica Sorensen is my go-to for great YA books. You always know that you will get a quality story with great characters. No matter what, the writing will be fantastic. Such is the case with Confessions of a Kleptomaniac. This is a book about two teenagers enduring heartbreaking life lessons, drawn together by a common bond of emotional turmoil yet falling for each other in spite of the hard knocks that life has thrown at them.

Luna and Grey are the most unlikely of friends. Luna the social outcast, ridiculed and shamed on a daily basis by her family, just waiting for the day when she can finally leave them and their controlling ways behind. Grey is the master of reinvention; going from a heartless jock to a kind but lost soul after his father’s passing. Their unlikely friendship rocks their quiet yet exceptionally snobby school but they are determined to help each other through the hard times they are both enduring.

I think most people can relate to Luna and/or Grey at one time in their lives. The one thing that I like most about Jessica’s characters is that they are real. I could have been Luna the outcast, Grey the jock, or someone in between – this is what her makes her stories so delightfully endearing to the reader. At one time or another, we all fall on hard times; we all have the possibility of being the outcast, the loner, the shadow in the corner just looking to blend in and not be noticed.

As always. Jessica’s writing is solid and entertaining. I enjoy her books more and more with each new one. Definitely a book that YA fans do not want to miss!
